About WTWU
Following an initial attempt in 2018, the Working Terrier World Union (WTWU) was officially founded on 19 September 2022 and registered as an association in the Austrian Register of Associations.
The WTWU is an international organisation uniting national terrier breeders' associations from its member countries. Its founding members include the Airedale Terrier Special Club Austria (AT), the Swiss Airedale Terrier Club (CH), the Swiss Terrier Club (CH), the Airedale Terrier Klub, z. s. (CZ), and the Club Français de l'Airedale Terrier et de divers Terriers (FR).
The primary aims of the WTWU are to promote performance and dog sports in accordance with FCI regulations and to advance utility breeding. These goals, along with fostering friendly relations among members, are pursued through the organisation of international sporting events. Furthermore, the WTWU is working towards a cooperation agreement with the FCI to allow World Champions to compete in FCI World Championships in their respective disciplines.
This international association aims to increase the visibility and representation of terrier breeds in dog sports. It also hopes to inspire other dog sports enthusiasts to explore the potential of terriers. After all, there is every reason to trust in terriers' exceptional abilities and performance!
About WTWU World Championship
The WTWU was officially established in 2022, with one of its primary goals being to organise a World Championship as soon as possible. Austria took the lead, with great determination, and under the leadership of WTWU President Mag. iur. Katharina Kribernegg, successfully hosted a delightful inaugural event.
The first WTWU World Championship took place in April 2023 in Markt Hartmannsdorf, Styria, Austria. While participation numbers were modest – for example, promising Airedale Terriers from the Czech Republic were unable to nominate in time – the competition still showcased great enthusiasm: IGP saw 10 teams, FH had 4, and OB had 3 teams.
The second World Championship was held in Fricktal, Switzerland. Participation grew, with 10 teams competing in IGP, 10 in FH, and 3 in OB. This year brought significant joy as the WTWU World Champion in the IFH2 category was crowned: lifelong terrier enthusiast Stanislav Šlejtr and his dog Dixa (Forever Dixie Finta-Star). Across both years, we witnessed outstanding performances and proved our ability to deliver high-quality events.
This year, we have the honour of demonstrating that we can successfully host large-scale events. We committed to holding the WTWU World Championship in the Czech Republic with great humility and purpose. We are grateful to the town of Brtnice for generously offering its facilities and providing financial sponsorship. The town is rightly proud of its resident, Ing. Stanislav Šlejtr, a dedicated citizen and patriot.
We have also received incredible support from various companies and brands, including Carnilove, Němec & Partners, SECCO Atelier, and HST. To all of them, we extend our heartfelt thanks!
Please keep your fingers crossed for us and join us in celebrating the pinnacle of terrier sports–whether as helpers, supporters, or spectators. Your presence will make this event even more special!
